Eagleview Elementary Volunteer Orientation “Doing whatever it takes.”

Welcome to Your New Home Eagleview Elementary

Eagleview Elementary School has always been fortunate to have a large community of parent volunteers. We realize that volunteers are an important part of the school but with regards to volunteers we also need to: Comply with Superintendent Policy

District Policies As a volunteer, you should be familiar with some important district policies. While we’ve included brief summaries below, we encourage you to read these policies in their entirety; by visiting

In an effort to promote a strong volunteer program that provides a safe, accountable and supportive school environment, it is important for you to be aware of the following before your first day of service: Volunteers perform the following important services at Eagleview: classroom assistance, class parties, field trip chaperones, PTO projects, bookroom support, lunch supervision, field day, crosswalk, bookfair FLIGHT classes and more. All adults volunteering at Eagleview must be trained. Volunteer training is now available online. To access the training, simply go to the Eagleview website, click on volunteers from the menu on the left, and click on volunteer orientation training (Power Point presentation). Once you have completed the training, print the code of conduct form located on the last slide and bring it, along with your driver’s license, to our main office to receive your volunteer badge. You are welcome to view the online training at Eagleview if you do not have access to the internet. Remember, all adults must complete the volunteer training in order to work in the school in any capacity. (This includes parents and/or grandparents who attend field trips.) Every year after you are trained you must complete a new volunteer application. Applications are available in the office. If you were trained previously, you do not need to be retrained. In an effort to support the confidentiality of students and to ensure the highest quality of instruction. We ask that volunteers limit their time in the classrooms to no more than two hours a couple of times a week. We greatly appreciate all the help and support you provide our school. Volunteering at Eagleview

Take time to become acquainted. Recognize this may be a new experience for you or the teacher. Be a good communicator. Remember, routine tasks are important. Be flexible. We all have different ways of doing things. Try something new. Be prompt and 100 percent dependable. Have fun! Volunteer Tips Working with staff:

Set up a time to meet with your supervisor Take time to observe Do not use student restrooms. Staff restrooms are available for volunteers. Maintain Confidentiality Take care of yourself first The professional staff is held responsible for decisions regarding instruction of students. For this reason, volunteers always work under the supervision of principals or their designees

 Call students by name at each opportunity.  Closely observe the techniques used by the teacher.  Accept children as they are.  Show them you care.  Encourage and praise students.  Remember, children never forget.  Encourage students to do their own thinking.  Follow the teacher’s lead.  Reinforce good behavior.  It’s okay if you don’t know all the answers.  Keep students on task.  Supervise students carefully.  Know when to give or not to give. Here are some tips for working with the students:
