Welcome To The De Montfort School Sixth Form Information Evening 2015

TDMS Sixth Form success TDMS Sixth Form offers excellent opportunities in a small personalised environment Three Year positive trend showing above average Value Added On average, students performed almost a grade better in vocational qualifications (V) compared with academic A- levels ALL students leave Sixth Form to go onto their chosen University or employment through apprenticeships 15% of students were successful in applying for a Russell Group University

TDMS Sixth Form Outstanding teaching across a broad spectrum of subjects Small teaching groups Closely monitored academic progress Exclusive Sixth Form area, including modern Common Room Private Study time and areas New Team (HoL, Head of Sixth) Sixth Form Enrichment

A Level Reform The Government has commenced the reform of A Level subjects which is being phased in over several years is the first year of reformed syllabuses in some subjects. Since 2000, A Levels have been divided into two parts each containing two units: AS counted as 50% of the A2 / A Level and attracted 50% of UCAS points for university entry. The future plan is for AS and A Levels to be ‘decoupled’.

A Level Reform Students will still be able to study AS and A2 courses but to qualify for an A2 students will need to take both parts of the course at the end of A2 in the Summer of Y13. The AS will become a standalone qualification: students can do an AS in Y12 but it will no longer count towards their A2 qualification The changes are being phased in gradually over the next three years. Universities will not discriminate according to AS or no AS

Subjects Phase 1 subjects – for first teaching beginning September 2015 are: English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Fine Art, Business, Computer Science, Economics and History These are the first of the new “linear” A Levels.

TDMS TDMS has made the decision to enter students for all AS levels in summer 2016 to counteract the problem of two systems working at once and to give students a creditable progress check. In the reformed subjects the AS marks will not count towards the final A Level but if the subject is not continued into Year 13 it will serve as a Stand Alone qualification A Stand Alone AS Level is worth 40% of the UCAS points of a full A Level Students in the Sixth Form study four AS subjects in Year 12, most students drop to three A2 subjects in Year 13

Homework & Private Study All students have up to nine lessons of Private Study Private Study cards Homework - website
