Chemistry 122 Welcome

Course Information Pre-requisite: Chemistry Units – Thermochemistry – Reaction kinetics and Equilibrium – Acids and Bases – Organic Chemistry

Mark Breakdown Term-70% – Homework and Assignments: 10% – Project: 5% – Tests and Quizzes: 45% – Labs: 10% Exam 30% You need 60% to receive credit for Chem 122

Missed Classes Wikispace Hand out folder, by the filing cabinet Attendance is crucial for success Miss a test, bring an excuse to HR and make it up the next available noon hour No excuse=Zero Please note if you do not have a computer on your student information sheet

Edmodo Go to Lick on the button "I'm a Student" the group code is “0goacg" (first character is a zero) Username: please pick a user name that is similar to your name so that it is easily identifiable to you Create a password for yourself to gain access each time you sign in Please enter the address that I used to send this information to you (even though it says optional it is not) Enter your actual name not a nick name or a funny name. Once you gain access, please go to settings, and then fill out the notification section with your cell phone number or so that when I post new things to the site, it will text you a message.

Class Expectations Be here on time(3 lates in a month =detention and every time thereafter) and prepared (pencil, binder, textbook, calculator) Behave respectfully Be attentive and follow directions Pass in work on time Work to the best of your ability No food, drinks (exception: water bottle), cell phones/ipods

Late Assignments *There is an expectation that all work be handed in on time. It is the responsibility of each student to know when their assignments are due and take necessary steps to hand them in on time. Homework assignments are due on the date determined by the teacher and will not be accepted late. A mark of “0” will be assigned for homework not completed on the due date. *Major assignments which are passed in late will be dealt with in the following manner: 1. 10% of the assignment value will be removed for each day the assignment is late for 4 days after the assignment is due. 2. Once the teacher has returned the marked assignment, the student will receive a mark of “0” on the assignment.

Course fee and Textbooks $5 course fee-pay online? Bring receipt so I can keep track New Textbooks, write name inside and Period Record #s, return the same book. Pay $98.50 if lost.

Lab Safety-Sign Contract! (Due Fri) Follow lab rules or be asked to leave and take a zero. Wear appropriate lab attire or else you will not be allowed to participate in the lab ad you will receive a zero How to avoid that scenario: Bring an old pair of sweats and sneakers and leave them in your locker. Miss a lab?

How to succeed in chemistry… How much do you retain? 90% of what they learn when they teach someone else/use immediately. 75% of what they learn when they practice what they learned. 50% of what they learn when engaged in a group discussion. 30% of what they learn when they see a demonstration. 20% of what they learn from audio-visual. 10% of what they learn when they’ve learned from reading. 5% of what they learn when they’ve learned from lecture. Find a study buddy, pair up and take turns talking about the material Practice, Practice, Practice! Be here, don’t fall behind, come in for help.
