Any elementary student who exhibits a substantial deficiency in reading based upon locally determined assessments, statewide assessments, or through teacher observations must be given intensive reading instruction immediately following the identification of the reading deficiency. justreadflorida.com

Students who exhibit a substantial deficiency in reading must be provided with additional diagnostic assessments to determine the nature of the student's difficulty, the areas of academic need, and strategies for appropriate intervention and instruction. justreadflorida.com

6A K-12 Student Reading Intervention Requirements Immediate intensive intervention must be provided daily for all students who have been identified with a reading deficiency. This intervention must be in addition to or as an extension of the ninety (90) minute reading block in a smaller group size setting or one on one. justreadflorida.com

Brevard Reading Plan Core Curriculum Initial Instruction 90 Minutes – all students Strategic Interventions Comprehensive & Intensive Interventions Students are proficient on district and state required assessments. Students may have small gaps in their skill or strategy learning that requires targeted re-teaching. Students with a reading deficiency in one or more component of reading. (S.B. rule 6A-6.054)  Reading FCAT Level 2 & identified Level 1 students  Tier 1 instruction was not sufficient as indicated on progress monitoring and diagnostic assessment data  PMP or IEP required for documentation Students with reading deficiencies in all components of reading.  Reading FCAT Level 1 students  Students working years below grade level  Not limited to 3++ students  Tier 2 intervention was not sufficient as indicated on progress monitoring and diagnostic assessment data  PMP or IEP required for documentation
