The Czech Republic Basic Facts Capital—Prague Language—Czech Religion—Roman Catholic, Protestant and Atheist Population—10,212,000 Located in Europe Map

History 1993 Czech Republic founded after the split of Czechoslovakia Václav Havel was elected its first president. They have developed into a centralized state system and a free market economy.

Subculture The Silesians  – Some might speak Silesian Language – 12,231 currently reside in the Czech Republic – Considered to share a lot of culture with Poland.

Values, Beliefs and Norms Family is most important to most Czech people – Fathers are involved with their children Most people don’t attend any church They expect children to be well behaved and socially gracious. Elders are not happy when children do not behave. – All children are taught a saying from a young age and are expected greet others with it. – "Dobrý den“  It’s like ‘good evening’ in English

Economy Industrialized and Stable High Iron and Steel production Some agriculture products (potatoes and wheat) Ceramics, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals They go to the theatre and spend time in the outdoors for entertainment – Numerous playgrounds for kids.

My Opinions I liked that everyone was very involved in family life. I didn’t like how judging people can be when children are not well behaved. I think I would like to live in the area, it’s beautiful and has a great economy. I think living here wouldn’t be too hard to adjust o because it has similar culture to America.

The Czech Republic

Live Here…Or not. I don’t think I would like to move to The Czech Republic, however I would love to visit. I think that the land and architecture is absolutely gorgeous. If I had to move it wouldn’t be bad, I just think I would be more comfortable in America.

Colombia Yellow- sovereignty and justice Blue- Nobility, loyalty, and vigilance Red- Valor, honor, generosity and victory through blood shed Adopted November 26, 1861

Colombia Basic Facts Population- 46,039,000 Capitol- Bogotá Located in South America Language- Spanish Religion- Roman Catholic

Where is it?

History July 20, Declared independent from Spain After, Thousand Days Civil War – Establish Panama Between La Violencia – A time of public violence In the late 1980’s drug cartels overwhelmed the government 1991 The new Colombian Constitution was passed – Guaranteeing rights for all people. – Current government keeps public safe.

Values, Beliefs and Norms 93% literate- Education is valued. –Everyone must attend school Families are very important Religion is thought very highly They eat ‘Spanish Style.’ –They eat lots of fresh fruits and beans. –They eat light breakfast and dinner and a substantial lunch. They have enormous carnivals that nearly all people par take in. –Ibagué Folk Festival and Bambuco National Folk Festival, Carnaval de Negros y Blancos, and They highly respect thier elders. –Older poeple are thought to be wiser.

Subculture Colombian Culture is divided into three sub groups. The Interior Group – Eat meat and eggs mainly – Most proper The Countryside Group – Catholic practices have been influenced by Spanish and African cultures – Less concerned with social graces The Coastal Group – Eat mostly seafood – Trusting and carefree The three groups only unite for political elections, sporting events, and beauty pageants.

Economy Manufacturing and Agricultural exports – Power generators and industrial machinery – Bananas, fresh flowers, sugar and coffee beans – Mining exports such as coal, silver platinum and copper There are very few jobs available now. The government has a “hands off” policy that has allowed for only a 3% growth in the economy

Current Events They have a huge drug problem. – The presidents of Latin American countries, including Colombia are meeting with Vice President Joe Biden over the Mexican and Latin American Drug Cartel. Discussing legalization of drugs

My Opinions. I love how much emphasize they put on education because I think it is very important. The culture is very similar to ours, the only thing that I would not get along with well is that I am not Catholic so I would be a bit of an outcast there.

Colombia

Live here…Or not. I don’t think I would like to live in Colombia. They are slightly behind us in technology and way of life. I think the country is beautiful and they have nice weather, but I don’t think I would like it to live there.
