Ban Nong Khao Ban Nong Khao is one district in Kanchanaburi, about 12 km. away from the province. Villagers here still live simply in an agricultural society and old-style houses practicing culture and traditions which has been transmitted from generation to generation.

Tourists can experience rice pounding, Thai typical desserts, molded sugar production, tonsuring ceremony, rice-growing, Phleng Yoei and Phleng Phuang Malai folk singing.

Weaving Group at Baan Nong Khao Baan Nong Khao local people have known and weaved specific design cloth for a long time. Formerly, they used cotton to spin fiber and dye with natural colors by themselves. There, they have to order raw materials from outside to meet the increasing demand.

However, they were dyed in different bright colors before weaving according to original designs. The most popular weaving cloth is “ Pa Khao Ma Ta Jak ” with specific designs and applied weaving “ Pa Khao Ma ” means a loincloth.

“ Ta ” means design, while “ Jak ” is a short word of “ Jak San ” that means weaving. In addition, the loincloth is called “ Pa Khao Ma Roi Si ” since it is much of a variety of colorful fibers “ Roi Si ” means one hundred colors.

Baan Nong Khao Local Museum. The local museum was modified Kowit Intraram school’s deserted building which was the first one made of bricks in Kanchanaburi and constructed in 1937. Then, a “Group of Baan Nong Khao Local People”

And teachers raised a fund by holding a Buddhist ceremony called “Top Pa-bpa” to repair the building to be used as a museum. In the museum, there are groups of stories of the community, original culture of Baan Nong Khao local people, e.g., their history, topography, folkway, culture and tradition.

Shrine of father and mother This wooden shrine has been created from the ancient times according to ancestors beliefs. It is located in the middle of Nong Khao Village. Whenever suffering from any borrow or wishing to hold any fairs or festivals. Nong Khao people will pay homage to it. Light joss sticks. And request for the accomplishment of work.

At present a traditional making-merit ceremony is annually hold on the fist day of waning moon and the sixth lunar month. Buddhist monks will be invited to make evening chants. And accept offerings in the morning. After that Nong Khao local people will pay homage to shrine by offering food water dessert ant “Bye Sri” cooked rice. Certain foods and fruits topped with boiled eggs and decorated with flowers.

Culture yard The culture yard is a tourist place to perform a light and sound folk drama entitled “Mr. Boon & Thong of Baan Nong Khao”. It was first performed in 1998 to show unity of Baan Nong Khao local people in seriously conserving culture. The folk drama consists of local plays, folk songs and traditions, e.g., a rice-growing ceremony,. A topknot ceremony. Songkran festival and folk song singing called “ Yoei ”. As a result, new generations of local people are proud of them and love their community.

Ram Yoei It is a kind of folk music play more than 500 years. This dance is always during Songkran and New Year holidays. There are male and female players are the form of a circle. The player has a turn to sing their own verses are accompanied by his players who clap their hands in rhythm.

Some players take turn to dance with music from the long- drum band Some players take turn to dance with music from the long- drum band. Male players wear round neck shirt with loincloth on the shoulder. Female players dress in costume with Thai Sabai cloth tied around the upper part of the body. The piece is now increasingly popular in Panom Thuan district.

Traditional rice farming community Rice plantation is still crucial for the majority of the villagers here. In the past, the rice planting took place once a year because it entirely depended only on the rain.

But nowadays, the farmers can do planting twice a year thanks to the irrigation system : one is an in-season planting ( Na Pee ) and the other is an off-season planting ( Na Prang ). The rice planting is both for selling and for feeding their families.
