Chinese New Year Wendy Osteyee-Christensen

We welcome in the New Year as we welcome the spring. Five days of feasting. Five days with family Five days of dancing to welcome the spring. Good luck and joy to all we bring.

On New Year’s Day we open gifts. Gifts of money for the children. Wrapped in red. Wrapped in gold. Wrapped in red and gold for the children. Gifts of money for all the children.

On the second day visits are made. To each home bring branches. Paper flowers. Paper leaves. Paper fruit to put on the tree. Symbols of prosperity.

On the third day and the fourth streets are crowded with people. Dancing dragons. Dancing lions. Dancing people in the street. Good luck comes to all we meet.

On the fifth day we may visit friends who live far away. Bainien. Bainien. Bainien to all our friends. Spring is coming once again.
