Making the vision real Extraordinary Nursing Care What does this need to look like? Nurses recognized as leaders in the organization Nurses own their practice environment Nurses recognized as the subject matter expert

Inspiration Goal: amplify nursing’s impact at Westside Medical Center Professional Practice begins with the end in mind Nurse Empowerment means we need to look at the way we are practicing nursing at Westside Medical Center very differently than we look at it now. Goal: amplify nursing’s impact at Westside Medical Center Need to articulate to others who we are and what we are able to contribute.

Infrastructure Need to be able to articulate to others who we are and what we are able to contribute. Posed the question to the professional development council. Council endorsed “beginning small.” Portfolio Speaks to both the individual and the organization. Addresses the original goal.

Infrastructure Professional Practice Council determined it would be best to pilot on one unit Introduced to MPU Co-Leads in December, 2014. Educator and Co-Leads placed together an introduction of the pilot for the MPU UBT. Consensus was gained in January, 2015.

Choose exemplars to present to the Integration Council. Evolve exemplar format to Nursing Grand Rounds through support from peers and mgmt. Develop a platform for nurses to present their exemplars and research. “Telling their stories”

What we have learned The Voice of Nursing advances professional practice. Starting small with the professional portfolio allowed for testing and refinement. Administrative support removed barriers. Champions are integral to maximized momentum. Establishing this as a professional expectation helped ease the way. Going Forward More foundational explanation of the Kaiser Professional Nursing Model in Phase I.
