Bright colors, variety of junk foods are present  Who/What is represented in this text?  Cereal, soda, pop tarts, kool-aid  What is the author trying to accomplish with this text?  The author is advertising food that tastes good and is appealing to the eye  For whom was this text written?  This text was written for kids and adolescents – could also be geared towards adults  Who stands to benefit/hurt from this text? Food and drink industry stands to benefit from this text. Children and adults could be hurt from this text because it promotes unhealthy food that could lead to a poor diet and even obesity.

 What is Salient? Barbie in a beautiful, bright, fun dress and G.I. Joe in military gear, ready for combat  Who/What is represented in this text?  Barbie and G.I. Joe  What is the author trying to accomplish with this text?  The author is catering to young girls utilizing the fairytales and magic related to Barbie, and to young boys using power and images of fighting associated with G.I. Children can benefit because they will find it entertaining to play with these toys. They may be hurt by these advertisements because their images of women and men may be distorted.

Disney stands to benefit from the advertisement. Girls will be entertained with all the products they could potentially get from the advertisement.

Fun packaging, bright colors, food that is appealing to both kids and adults  Who/What is represented in this text?  Nutritious food, food that is fun and appealing to kids (gummy bears, chicken nuggets in different shapes)  What is the author trying to accomplish with this text?  The author is trying to get kids to eat the food by promoting gummy bears and chicken nuggets in a variety of shapes. The author is attempting to capture the appeal of parents by selecting food choices that are nutritious for kids.  For whom was this text written?  Geared towards kids and parents  Who stands to benefit/hurt from this text? Kids and parents alike stand to benefit from this text. Food company also stands to benefit from the advertisement.
