GEOTRACES in the Levantine Basin, Eastern Mediterranean Angelos Hannides & Cecelia Hannides with thanks to Dan Hayes & George Zodiates, Oceanography Center, University of Cyprus (OC-UCY) OC-UCY is interested in participating in and facilitating GEOTRACES- related activities in the Levantine Basin A Mediterranean GEOTRACES transect? Discussion tomorrow The use of the physical oceanographic activities of OC-UCY as a foundation on which to build the biogeochemical operational oceanography component of OC-UCY A Mediterranean GEOTRACES transect: Tracing an Atlantic ocean water mass back to the source; Providing the impetus for regional and local process studies to generate GEOTRACES-compatible data.

Research directions of the Oceanography Center: Physical operational oceanography: Cyprus Coastal Ocean Forecasting and Observing System (CYCOFOS) Forecasting Remote sensing Cyprus Basin Oceanography (CYBO) Cruises and moorings Autonomous gliders (from 2008) Data management and information: Historical data/metadata bases
