History Ever since they started campaigning in 1961, they have worked around the globe to stop the abuse of human rights They now have more than 2.2 million members, supporters and subscribers in over 150 countries and territories, in every region of the world.
Accomplishments The organization conducts research and generates action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated. The organization was awarded the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its “campaign against torture” and the United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights in 1978 Publication of impartial and accurate reports; Reports are researched by interviewing victims and officials, observing trials working with local human rights activists and by monitoring the media.
