LET’S TALK ABOUT THE READING. Use the discussion questions at your tables to debrief what you read this weekend. YOU NEED TO ANSWER AT LEAST THREE (IN WRITING) ON ONE OF THE HALF-SHEETS; THIS WILL COUNT AS YOUR “READING QUIZ” TODAY; IT’S OPEN BOOK. We will debrief whole class, so be ready to share answers to all of the questions.

YOU’VE TALKED (A LOT) ABOUT THE EVIL IN THE WORLD. Let’s focus, now, on some organizations who are trying to act in opposition to all that negativity. Each of your small groups has been assigned ONE world organization who’s made it their mission to right some of these wrongs.

YOUR TASK (IN 15 MINUTES OR LESS): Google the organization; find THEIR webpage. (Don’t spend forever looking—they’re all easy to find.) WHEN was this organization founded? Was there an inciting incident that pushed them into creation? WHAT is their mission? WHERE do they focus their efforts? WHO are they focused on helping? [AND/OR] WHO can get involved? WHY is their mission/focus vitally important in this part of the nation/world? HOW are they able to make all this good work possible? Remember, you need to be ready to present to the class. (You only have 2-3 minutes for your presentation, so please be concise.)

SHARE OUT (PLEASE TRY TO LIMIT YOURSELVES TO 2-3 MINUTES…) Amnesty International Human Rights Action Center Children’s Defense Fund UNESCO NAACP Simon Wiesenthal Center Human Rights without Frontiers Doctors without Borders Southern Poverty Law Center UNICEF Human Rights Watch Free the Children/We Day

TIMED QUICK WRITE Imagine you had unlimited time and unlimited resources. Write me a business proposal. Be sure to answer the following questions: What issue/concern would YOU address in our world to help “do good”? Why is this issue important to you? Who would you want to help and who would you employ to make your plan possible? Where in the world would you base your organization? I’d love for you to share these. The world doesn’t get to hear from youth nearly often enough about what they’d change and how they’d do it. I want to know what’s going on in your head. Please!
