PRODUCERS are organisms capable of photosynthesis CONSUMERS are organisms that obtain their energy by eating producers ECOSYSTEMS are made up of populations of many organisms that rely on each other, plus the air, water, and other shared features of the environment
HERBIVORES are organisms that obtain energy from producers [plant-eaters] For example: cows, sheep, deer, and grasshoppers
CARNIVORES are organisms that obtain energy from other consumers [meat- eaters] For example: lions, hawks, snakes, spiders, sharks, alligators, and whales
OMINIVORES are organisms that obtain energy from both producers and consumers For example: bears, pigs, gorillas, rats, raccoons, cockroaches, some insects, and humans
DECOMPOSERS are organisms that break down dead organisms in an ecosystem and returns nutrients to the soil, water, and air For example: fungi and bacteria
