Architecture Approach

APTS 2 Transit Fixed-Route Operations This market package performs vehicle routing and scheduling, as well as automatic operator assignment and system monitoring for fixed-route and flexible-route transit services. This service determines current schedule performance using AVL data and provides information displays at the Transit Management Subsystem. Static and real time transit data is exchanged with Information Service Providers where it is integrated with that from other transportation modes (e.g. rail, ferry, air) to provide the public with integrated and personalized dynamic schedules. Operator assignment System monitoring Static and real time data exchange with ISPs

Conclusions

Frontier Rural Challenges Frontier / rural agencies have few staff persons, typically with limited technical knowledge & ITS experience Staff responsibilities are broadly focused and extremely varied Limited resources – budgets, access to competitive funding, and available rural- experienced consultants Few or no ‘off-the-shelf’ tools

Solutions Collaborate with neighboring and similar regional agencies Continually identify new funding, resource opportunities, barriers and potential partners Support ‘local champion’ – innovation and involvement attract special funding and mutual benefits Choose vendors and contractors whose business model supports innovation & change Involve multiple consultants Use systems engineering process
