BACKGROUND Hepatitis B infection caused by the hepatitis B virus is a major public health problem worldwide and is transmitted directly through blood or other body fluids. Blood and serous fluids contain the highest concentration of the HBV and one of the important ways of hepatitis B viral transmission is by blood through percutaneous exposure.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper is to asses the frequency of accidents through occupational exposure in hepatitis B virus infection among health care providers.

MATERIAL AND METHOD This is a retrospective study carried out between January 2010 and December 2012, on 281 health care providers, with age between 20 and 54 years, which have been in contact by accident with patients or their body fluids. We made this research in the SSCIN Department at Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Targu-Mures, Romania.

RESULTS

Based on our research, we noticed that young health care providers are more frequent exposed to accidents through occupational exposure. Only few of them get the infection with hepatitis B because the majority agrees with the vaccine and respects the treatment. CONCLUSIONS
