12 Who qualifies for English Language Learner Accommodations? Students who are officially identified as English Language Learners If student is still in process of being evaluated, student is not officially identified and does not qualify Parent withdrawals DO qualify Transitioned students DO NOT qualify

13 In Which Grades do Students Accommodations have to be entered into DSTP Accommodations? Students in grades 2-11 must have accommodations in DSTP Accommodations For K, 1, and 12 no accommodations need to be entered. At the end of grade 1, the grade 2 accommodations could be entered as part of the planning process for the coming year. After grade 11 tests are completed, no accommodations need to be entered.

14 Regulations on Instructional and Testing Accommodations. ESEA grants states the responsibility to identify which accommodations will be permitted on the state test. States are required to select accommodations that do not change the construct of the test. Instructors have the responsibility to select instructional and test accommodations for a student, but the testing accommodations must be selected from the states list of allowable testing accommodations.

19 Accommodation 94 has been split into four accommodations: Reading, re-reading in ENGLISH the test questions, including multiple-choice options. Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies ONLY Reading, re-reading, clarifying in ENGLISH the test directions ONLY Reading, re-reading, in SPANISH the test questions, including multiple-choice options. Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies ONLY Reading, re-reading, clarifying in SPANISH the test directions ONLY.

(Word for word translation only) –This accommodation will be rolled up to accommodation 700 (printed dictionary) –School/district must manually change to 701 (electronic dictionary) if desired. #85 – translate directions, questions, writing prompts only (not passages) –This accommodation will be rolled up to 708, translates directions only –School/district must manually enter accommodation 709 translate writing prompts and test questions if desired.

25 Unique Accommodations Submit unique accommodations requests online in DOESSO/Incidents, Exemptions, and Unique Accommodations. (NOT in DSTPA). You may want to include additional information about your request. Remember to –fill out the entire application –describe thoroughly the accommodation you are proposing.

Now thru October 18: make sure grade 4 and 6 ELL student accommodations are correct October 19: October testing window for grade 4 and 6 science and social studies starts November 09 thru March 9, 2010: Update all students, grades 2-10, accommodations in reading and mathematics (no writing) March 10, 2010: Mathematics and Reading testing begins

32 Quality control steps Upcoming Testing –Grades 4 and 6 Science and Social: October 2009 –Grades 2-10 Reading and Math (no writing): March 2010 –Grade * and 11 Science and Social: May 2011 Accommodation 82 was not rolled up. You need to go in and enter the correct accommodation(s) (601, 602, 705, or 706) Accom 68 was rolled up to accommodation 700 (printed dictionary). School/district must manually change to 701 (electronic dictionary) if desired. Accommodation 94 was not rolled up: You need to go in and enter the correct accommodation(s) (603, 604, 711, 712) Accommodation 85 was rolled up to 708. You must enter accommodation 709 if it is also needed. See the memo dated May 15, 2009, available on the DSTP Website under Special Populations
