Toolkit Development and Piloting for Museums and Archives - Update Oliver Allies 10 th March 2011

Background  ERS Commissioned to analyse economic impact methodologies – Sept 2010  Archives and Museums – multiplier impact approach considered most suitable  Multiplier Approach- expenditure focus:  Procurement  Employment  Visitor related  Phase 2 – Toolkit Development

Phase 2 Approach  Scoping the availability of information  Market research to assess “preparedness”  Survey very brief, online  Distribution through ALMA-UK representatives as “route to market”  Currently being tested  Developing the toolkit  Developed in Excel, hidden formulae, appropriate protection  Refined based on survey feedback  Currently in development

Phase 2 Approach  Establishing benchmarks and External Testing  Draft toolkit piloted to capture intelligence and information on “usability and usefulness”  Preparedness assessment informs piloting to capture information for benchmarks  Sufficient observations to be obtained to establish and refine toolkit  Toolkit and guide refined and enhanced based on information obtained through piloting

Phase 2 Approach  Ongoing support  Following refinements, wider distribution of toolkit  Support offered throughout this process  Participants encouraged to feedback on usability  Future maintenance  Updating of formulae  Refinements to reflect changes in policy/practice  Offered for 12 months from April 2011
