 List 1 fact you learned from the video/discussion yesterday.  What is the impact of colonization on the African continent?  Which African country has the most pyramids? Retrievers- 1 handout, green books Collectors- Video response Attendance- Name on handout Supply- Probably colored pencils/crayons O-managers- Your J.O.B.; groups organized and efficient.

Vocabulary of Colonization and Imperialism

Definition: The act or process of establishing a colony or colonies Think about the 13 Colonies!

 The practice of having power over a nation/region by gaining authority/control over political and economic activities.

 To divide into parts or shares.

 Boundaries or borders that are not formed naturally.  Remember that artificial boundaries created in the Ottoman Empire?

 Fight between opposing (opposite) groups within a country in hope to gain control.

 Use the green textbook (pg. 69) to complete the map on African colonization. It should be color coded by country and write in the independence dates for each.

 In 7+ complete (strong) sentences explain the following: (compare the map you completed to the natural resource map in the book)  What did Africa have that Europeans wanted? And how/why did it lead to the Partitioning of Africa ◦ Use evidence from the maps (natural resource/colonization) to defend your answer  “In the map I saw, _______________________”

 Why were the Europeans able to conquer the African continent and not vice versa? In other words, what factors were necessary??  Respond in 1-2 paragraphs.
