Minneapolis Truckers’ Strike of 1934 By: Cole Dudley

Why did this happen? The truckers also known as teamster started the strike because they wanted union recognition and a higher pay.

The First Strike The first strike was short because the teamsters didn’t know if they got their point around.

The Second Strike A second strike was established because the terms of the settlement did not meet their expectations. The conflict lasted for two days. It was a bloody battle at the city market. Women strike supporters later entered to help. This strike left 200 injured and four dead.

Were they successful? YES! The strikers were successful. After long negotiations between the government and the truckers they reached an agreement. The truckers went back to work knowing that they can put food on the table.
