Writing About A Story : Essay on Short Fiction

Read the Story: Read the work you want to write about at least twice. As you read, make notes, highlight key passages. Make a copy to make notes. Read the story out loud or listen to a recording of the story

Think, Consider, Examine, Analyze. Identify the protagonist and the conflict. Consider the story’s point of view.

Short Fiction Analysis: Think about the setting. Notice key symbols.

Story Analysis: Identify the theme. Think about the tone and style.

Formulate your thesis: Write and revise your statement. Back up your thesis with evidence. Conduct your research.

Organize your argument Make an outline. Choose the points to support your thesis. Decide about the placement of your supporting information from your sources.

Rough Draft- Revision and Editing Set your work aside, then approach it with a fresh perspective Allow trusted sources to review your work. Edit for mechanical, spelling and usage errors. Read the paper aloud. Make sure that your discussion is tied directly to your thesis.

Final Steps: Construct your works cited page. Submit to turnitin. Celebrate!
