Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 POWERPOINT TIPS Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 Copyright Interscience Communications Limited © 2015 In this presentation you will find information on the following: Master Slide Template Text and Fonts Animated Text Images Presentation size and length Moving Images (movies / videos) Deadline Date for your PPT – 24 th September 2015

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 SLIDE MASTER TEMPLATE Please use this master slide for your presentation at the conference. This helps uniformity. If you want to customize your slides by adding your logo then please place this on the bottom left hand side. Place your logo here

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 TEXT AND FONTS Do not overcrowd the slide with text Use simple fonts (ie Arial) Use large point size (this is 32 pt) Less than 24 pt is to small to read Always embed fonts especially if using equations, symbols or non-English letters

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 ANIMATED TEXT Use this sparingly! Be consistent and only use one or two effects throughout the show eg. dissolve or fly in from left etc Use animated text to build and highlight information eg. Dim bullet points This slide uses too much animation and illustrates how distracting and gimmicky these effects are.

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 IMAGES Once you have inserted an image make sure its file size is “optimised” by following these simple steps: 1. Click on any image 2. Go to “Format” on the toolbar 3. Click on “compress image” and then “options” 4. Select “target output” as “screen” This will automatically compress all images in your presentation and make the file size much smaller, more portable and quicker to load and run without losing quality or definition.

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 FILL THE SLIDE WITH THE IMAGE

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 PAGE SETUP In page set up make sure that the slides are set for “on screen show” PRESENTATION LENGTH Usually slides is more than enough! ( On average this is one slide per minute or less)

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 MOVING IMAGE FILES Special consideration is needed if using moving image files such as: movies (*.mpg) videos (*.avi) animated gifs (*.gif) Please let us know the slide number where there are any moving images so that we can check the links work.

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 Naming Inserted Files Inserted files should be named after the slide they appear in. Eg. A movie in slide 7 would be slide7.mpg If multiple files are inserted in a slide, also use an alphabetical subset Eg. slide7a.mpg, slide7b.mpg This makes it easier for the Organisers to re-insert the file should it “drop out”. Only Supply Relevant Files Only the main presentation and it’s associated files should be on the disk. Moving Image Files (cont/)

Human Behaviour in Fire 2015 DEADLINE DATE: 24 th September 2015 We need to check that your PowerPoint runs without error on the conference laptops so we need them ahead of the conference to run through them. If there are problems with your presentation we will contact you. Your presentation will then be loaded into the Session Holding Slide which is where it will be run from ( see example below from another conference ) Click on your Name and your PowerPoint will run. After your last slide you will return to the session holding screen ready for the next speaker
