3 Prehistoric Peoples Donald Johanson- discovered a hominid skeleton that lived approximately 3.2 million years ago He named the skeleton Lucy after the Beatles song, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Lucy belonged to a group called Australopithecus, or “southern ape.” Evidence suggests that Lucy spent most of the time walking upright.

4 Lucy Discovered Remains Reconstruction

5 Old Stone Age AKA the Paleolithic Age Approximately 2,500,000 B.C. – 10,000 B.C. Why do you think this time period is referred to as the Stone Age? Humans all belong to the species, Homo sapiens Homo sapiens appeared somewhere between 100,000 and 400,000 years ago.

6 Old Stone Age Ice Age Extremely cold periods in Earth’s history that took place within the last 1.7 million years Currently, we are living in a warm period that began about 10,000 years ago. Sea levels dropped, which formed land bridges. How might prehistory have been different if the Ice Age never took place?
