26  Enable the public to get the latest information on expressway via: Short messaging system (SMS) Multimedia messaging system (MMS) variable message signboards (VMS) Traffic information could be obtained real-time with the presence of 195 cameras, 88 VMS displays and 131 vehicle detector stations along expressways. Also, by applying an ITS concepts, this centre is able to collect, store and analyze traffic data and disseminate them to road users through various medium

28 TOLL SYSTEM IN MALAYSIA a.Closed toll systems Users pay toll charges based on the distance travelled and the class of vehicle used. Well suited to inter-urban highways on which long distance traffic volumes are high.

b.Open Toll System –Users to pay a fixed toll charge at the toll plaza based on the class of vehicle used. –User free to exit the expressway at any junction or to continue on to the next toll plaza –Well suited in semi urban highways with numerous junctions or intersections 29 TOLL SYSTEM IN MALAYSIA

Manual Toll Collection System  Open toll system - User pay cash to the toll operator at the toll plaza and toll collection point  Closed Toll System – Transit ticket surrended to the toll operator at the exit toll plaza and user pay the amount payable toll based on distance travel. 2. Electronic Toll Collection System Generally ETC methods comes into 2 forms :-  The prepaid stored value contactless smart card with barrier  The non-barrier electronic on board tag system  First ETC system introduced in 1995.
