How to raise them??  Keep them healthy * Getting them vaccinated  Have their quality assured * It produces high quality meat  Facilities * It needs to be in a clean, dry and comfortable, with good air circulation pen.  Halter Breaking *Allow them to get use to the halter * Make sure they don’t jerk the halter from your hands, they need to learn that they can’t get away.

Continue… o Teaching to lead * Use the pull, release and reward method * Give them a little slack to see if they respond to the reward of releasing the pressure *Be patient with them If they don’t want to move, tug firmly on the rope while maintaining steady pressure *Keep repeating this method until they lead well o Hair care * Comb it often on a warm day to keep its hair coat and skin healthy o Equipment * Feed trough * Water trough

 You want to feed them Concentrates, Roughages, Nutrients  Concentrate’s > Corn, Wheat, Barley, Oats, Corn Seed Meal and Cotton Seed Meal…  Roughage’s > Grasses, Pastures, Silages, legumes, and hay(alfalfa, grass hay)  Nutrition's > Water (10-15 gallons), Carbohydrates, Proteins, Minerals, Vitamins (A, D, E, K) What to feed..

How can you tell they are ready?? 1.Degree of muscling 2.Degree of finish (fat cover) -Brisket, body depth, shoulders, underline, tailhead, topline, and over the rib 3. Growth capacity 4. Soundness and structural correctness 5. Balance 6.Frame size

What do you look for?  What to look for when buying a steer or calf - structure correctness - Muscle shapes - Depth of the body - Frame size - Overall balance  Also want to look for the degree in muscling.. - Thin -Average - Thick - Super * Super is the best degree of muscling  Make sure they have a full brisket

What breeds produce the best meats?  Devon  Angus  Long horn  Hereford  Belted Galloway  Red poll  Short horn
