December 2008 Pre-Discharge Program Purpose: Provide complete transition assistance to all service members May include all phases of disability claims processing from receipt of claim through examination and the rating process
December 2008 Pre-Discharge Program Types of Pre-Discharge Claims: Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) Quick Start Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES)
December 2008 –Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) Claims Servicemember must: Have days remaining in service –Submit a copy of service treatment records (STRs) or health treatment records –Be available at point of separation to undergo VA exam(s)
December 2008 QUICK START CLAIMS The Quick Start program serves Service members who do not qualify for BDD because they: Have less than 60 days before separation/retirement Are not available for VA examinations at the point of separation
December 2008 Pre-Discharge Program How to apply: Submit VA Form c, Pre- Discharge Compensation Claim, or other applicable forms Provide original or copy of STRs Provide known date of separation or retirement Submit a permanent address, phone number, and address
December 2008 Pre-Discharge Program Service members can submit BDD or Quick Start packets anywhere VA accepts claims. This includes: VA Regional Offices Intake sites on military installations VA medical facilities VA claim workshops Veterans Service Organizations
