BALANCING ENERGY -The balance your body needs between energy entering the body (from food and drink) and energy leaving the body (from things done and movements made). -Some foods give you more energy than others, so it is important to eat from all food groups. -Like certain foods, different activities also use up more energy than others.

PROTEIN: BEST SOURCES: Beef, Poultry, Fish, Eggs, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and beans.

CARBOHYDRATES SIMPLE VS. Simple: Simple sugars are found in refined sugars like white sugar. There are also sugars in fruit and milk. (COMPLEX) STARCHES Complex: Grain products, milk, bread, crackers, pasta, and rice. Unrefined grains still contain vitamins and minerals. Whereas refined grains such as white rice have been stripped of nutrients and fiber.

EXERCISE: Being active in any way is a form of exercise. Running during recess, kicking a ball, playing sports, and dancing are ALL forms of exercise. Aerobics (with air) requires a lot of breathing and a lot of oxygen. This is a very important form of exercise that makes your heart very happy. Examples: Swimming, biking, jogging, walking, skating, skipping, jumping etc. What are some exercises you do that require a lot of oxygen?
