 Define Domestic Violence and Child to Parent Violence (CPV)  Identify the complex challenges of Child to Parent Violence within the context of traditional domestic violence or IPV treatment models.  Introduce BTC Family Program in action.  Summarize research implemented within the Seminole County PAY juvenile diversion program. 2 Presentation Objectives:

What is Child to Parent Violence?

 Traditional Domestic Violence Intervention: Duluth Model

BTC: New Beginnings 6

“We are the nicest sanction in town” “We are the nicest sanction in town”  Family Safety is our #1 concern  BTC is not a “how-to” parenting course and is not punitive in tone  Brain development is our theoretical underpinning and coaching human development and thinking skills is our passion.  Civility and weekly check-in process for accountability is a required component

BTC in Action  BTC is highly individualized by culture, age, needs, mental health conditions, cultural issues, school calendar, risk factors, etc.  Peer leadership at BTC is at the core of our ability to individualize  Young adult/Peer leadership is uniquely beneficial  CPV is not just horrible behaviors or bad kids. It’s a real life issue and a “family secret” that is more common than we think.  BTC is talking about this “family secret”…with great results. 8
