To be a chef, you need a certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree. During this process, times will be hard. Waking up early in the morning, standing in a hot kitchen, completing internship and intense criticism. But one thing that really matters is the passion to cook. One great example is Julia Child. She was an American Chef, an author and television personality. She did not grew up wanting to be a chef. Some where in her older years, she wanted to do something new. She discovered cooking and fell in love with it. Julia Child, the woman who showed culinary is all about passion and creativity.

 A chef needs to observe all who works below them and also to make sure that their duties are fulfilled. She also has to set menu items and place food orders and kitchen tools.  For a chef, common traits would include the following: ability to multi-task, make instant decisions, delegation to trusted employees, organized, hygiene and being creative.

For a career in cooking, there has been a large increase in meals which are being eaten at the restaurant rather than in the home. There has been an increase in the number of restaurants and fast food shops. These new developments may influence your entrance into this field as it makes me want to work in one of those restaurants and share my talents with others. This trend will help me as restaurants increases, and the need for workers increases too.

I would like to work at a hotel outside New York, possibly Miami, Las Vegas and then open my own restaurant in New York. The job opportunities in my field of study are Executive Chef- full time job with the payment of $80k-85k/year. The starting payment is $26,000. A top earning salary is over $30 million which is earned by Gordon Ramsay. Gordon Ramsay is a British Chef, television personality and restaurateur.

 Careers that require similar skills and aptitudes to chef are baker, bartender, café manager, caterer, fast food manager, food and beverage manager.  Some possible challenges that I didn’t realize in this career choice are long hours, low pay, busy schedule, heat, high pressure and not having enough time to spend with families and friends.
