What is Indistar ® ? A web-based action-planning system for facilitating “rapid turnaround” initiatives Used by district and school improvement teams to inform, coach, sustain, track, and report improvement activities Provides school, district, ESD, and state-level access A tool to guide the collaborative process toward: Arriving at consensus regarding current levels of development of evidence-based practices, and Moving forward with goals, objectives, and tasks that address turnaround initiatives

The Indistar® School-Level Account provides: Access to the 17 School-Level Expected Indicators, “Wise Ways” research, and resources associated with each Indicator Opportunities for coaches and district-level leaders to provide feedback on your action plan Access to the file cabinet (Document Upload feature) to upload supplemental evidence Administrative and reporting features to monitor school progress and provide feedback What is Indistar ® ? Continuous Improvement Process Indistar® Planning Phases

Student and School Success “Turnaround Principles” Principle 1: Provide strong leadership Principle 2: Ensure teachers are effective and able to improve instruction Principle 3: Expand time for student learning and teacher collaboration Principle 4: Strengthen the school’s instructional program Principle 5: Use data to inform instruction and for continuous improvement Principle 6: Establish a safe and supportive school environment Principle 7: Engage families and community

“Indicators” are rapid improvement evidence-based practices at the district, school, and classroom level used to improve student learning. – Each Indicator describes a concrete behavior or professional practice that research confirmed contributes to student learning. – They are written in plain language so teams can respond with certainty when asked if the specific behavior is standard practice in the school. – Each Indicator relates to a Student and School Success Principle (“Turnaround Principle”). – Research (known as “Wise Ways” in Indistar®) is provided for every Indicator. Indicators and Expected Indicators

“Expected Indicators” are those that OSPI has designated as required in school and district action plans. – Schools must have one “active” Expected Indicator per Student and School Success Principle from the bank of 17 School-Level Expected Indicators – “Active” Indicators include S.M.A.R.T. goals, tasks, and timelines Indicators and Expected Indicators (continued) Expected Indicator - P5 IID08 Instructional teams use student learning data to assess strengths and weaknesses of the curriculum and instructional strategies.

Pause and Reflect Leadership Teams who effectively engage in this action- planning process: Acquire a deep understanding of the behavior or practice described in Indicators Use Wise Ways research embedded in Indistar® to help build that understanding Gather and utilize a variety of data around educator use of the practice and impact on student learning Engage in a culture of candor Please reflect on your Leadership Team’s experiences in: Using research in the action-planning process and Engaging in frank conversations around data related to educator practice and student learning.

“Docs and Links” Tab The “Docs and Links” tab provides access to the “Current Level of Development” tool, S.M.A.R.T. Goal Rubric, and many other resources.

How to Navigate to “School Main” Page from “My Dashboard”

“School Main” Page The “School Main” Page is the “heart of the tool.” From here, you are able to Assess, Create, and Monitor Indicators as well as access the Navigation Toolbar.

Assess – Create - Monitor This is where the team goes to assess Indicators, craft plans for those assessed Indicators, and monitor the implementation of those plans.

“Snapshot” Feature The “Snapshot” is a great, easy way to get up-to-the- minute information about recent activity and past due items.

Navigation Toolbar Never get lost! The Navigation Toolbar makes it easy for users to make their way from Indicator work, to Coaching Comments, reports, and more.

Glossary of Icons on the Navigation Toolbar Keep leadership team updated at all times! Share Coaching Comments with the team and respond. Capture Leadership Team meetings (agendas & minutes). View, export, or print more than 20 report varieties.
