Ontario Mining Industry – 2011 Fatal Injuries Jan. 6 – While drilling a hole for wall support, the drill steel intersected a naturally occurring void resulting in a sudden release of highly pressurized fluid. This causing the jack leg drill to be ejected from the hole striking the worker in the chest. Feb. 20 – East bound transport trailer lost control, crossed over into west bound lane, and collided with injured worker’s vehicle. Mar. 10 – Worker suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a scoop tram. June 8 – Two employees were working at an ore pass area when a run of muck struck and fatally injured both of them. August 22 – Worker was fatally injured when a tornado hit. He was crushed under rubble.
