Behavioral Health Services for Iowa Plan Medicaid-Eligible Children Presentation by: Pat Crosley, Family Advocate, Magellan Health Services August 2005

Iowa Plan for Behavioral Health DHS and DPH statewide plan for Medicaid mental health and substance abuse, substance abuse federal block grant and state appropriations, and certain state-funded mental health services. Covers broad array of Mental Health services Substance Abuse services for children (and adults) enrolled in the Iowa Plan through Medicaid.

Iowa Plan Mental Health Services Ambulance services Emergency services, available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year Inpatient hospital care Dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse) treatment provided at Mount Pleasant MHI (adults only)

Iowa Plan Mental Health Services Outpatient treatment – Family, Group, Individual Partial hospitalization Day treatment Medication management Second opinion as psychosocially necessary and appropriate for the childs condition

Iowa Plan Mental Health Services Services of a licensed psychologist for testing/evaluation and treatment of mental illness Services in State Mental Health Institutes for enrollees under the age of 21 or through the age of 22 if hospitalized prior to the 21st birthday Services provided through a Community Mental Health Center

Iowa Plan Substance Abuse Services Outpatient services Intensive outpatient Partial hospitalization Clinically managed residential Medically monitored intensive inpatient

Iowa Plan Substance Abuse Services Detoxification Services provided by a substance abuse licensed PMIC Emergency services, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Ambulance services

Iowa Plan Substance Abuse Services Intake, assessment and diagnosis services Evaluation, treatment planning, and service coordination Court-ordered evaluation for substance abuse. Court-ordered testing for alcohol and drugs

Iowa Plan Provider Information Service providers are contracted with Magellan for the Iowa Plan: -Providers include ARNPs, CMHCs, counselors, hospitals, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and therapists. -Contracted providers are credentialed – that is, they are qualified to provide services. -Contracted providers know Iowa Plan policies and procedures.

Iowa Plan Intensive Care Management and Joint Treatment Planning Intensive Care Management is structured, on-going, collaborative treatment and service planning for those Iowa Plan enrollees who have multiple needs or are at- risk or who could benefit from additional support. Joint Treatment Planning pulls together all involved folks – including the client and/or family – to discuss desired goals and develop service plan to meet those goals. Call Magellan at or
