Using a Spreadsheet to Gather Data and Record Information to Do Work Spreadsheet Project

Objective: Use the Internet and spreadsheets to find calories and fat in a typical fast food meal. Project Rubric: Information on how this project will be graded.Project Rubric Procedure: Step One:Decide which fast food restaurant you would like to visit. Click on that restaurant's web site below. McDonald's: Chipotle: Jack in the Box: Other Restaurants: (This site allows you to search many fast food restaurant sites.) Once there, plan a meal with a sandwich, salad or other main dish, a side dish (french fries, etc), a drink, and a dessert. For each item on your menu, record the total calories and the calories from fat. Step Two: Enter your data in an Excel spreadsheet. In your notebook, record information about which restaurant they visited, what food they ate, and the nutritional content of that food. Step Three: Visit the United States Department of Agriculture to find out more about healthy eating guidelines: Browse through this site and answer the questions on your handout.answer the questions on your handout.

Informative Research Based “Short 1Sheet Paper” Step Four: Using Microsoft Word, type a four paragraph report about your findings. Use the format for a 3/4” margins on all sides, 12 pt. Times font. Your name and period in the upper right corner. After selecting you meal and recording specific data, write an short 1 page report in which you compare your meal with another student and explain who chose a healthier meal. Support your discussion with evidence from your research and spreadsheet data. Paragraph #1: Introduction should include which restaurant you chose, why you decided to eat at this place and the items on you ordered. Paragraph #2: Summarize your findings about your meal including number of calories, percentage of fat, etc. Copy and paste one of your charts into your document as supporting evidence. Paragraph #3: Compare and contrast your meal with another student. Name the specific student you compared meals with. Use data from your notes and information you recorded in step 2. Paragraph #4: Go to the Department of Agriculture to evaluate your meal by answering the following questions in a paragraph form: 1.How does your percentage of fat compare to the percentage recommended by the Depart. Of Ag. ? 2.What does this sources guidelines say about eating fruits and vegetables? 3.Based on your research, have you planned a healthy meal? 4.What changes might you make in your meal to make it healthier? When you finish the report, print it, attach it to your other handouts and put the whole packet in the correct location.
