Presentation transcript:

The college expects… To succeed at College, you need to be absolutely sure what we expect of you and what you should expect of yourself.

We expect you to fulfil your Learning Agreement Attend all lessons. Arrive on time. Organise yourself. Behave in a civilised manner, show respect to everyone. Keep to College policies and rules, act sensibly and safely. Understand disciplinary proceedings.

1.We expect you to attend 100% of your timetabled lessons All your subject sessions. Key Skills sessions. Tutorials. Any meetings arranged for you. Call us if you can’t attend – before 10 same day. You’ll lose financial help if you don’t attend. Poor attenders could be asked to leave.

2.We expect you to be punctual Arrive for all your lessons on time. Arrive to appointments on time. Make sure you have everything with you that you need for your lesson. If transport problems mean you are going to be late – phone and let us know.

3.We expect you to behave in a civilised manner at all times Respect others and respect yourself. Respect facilities and resources, smoke only in the shelters and put litter and chewing gum in the bins. Switch off your mobile in class and LRC. Refrain from illegal activities at College. By your behaviour, keep the good name of the College. Read the Equality and Diversity Statement displayed around the College.

4.We expect you to complete all your work properly Meet deadlines set by your tutors. Complete work to the best of your ability. Put in hours needed for home study.

5.We expect you to organise your studies Keep your notes and work in an organised way. Bring any essential items to each class with you. Make sure you have any uniform, protective clothing or equipment you need for class before the start of the session. File your work so you can find what you need.

6.We expect you to limit the amount of paid work you do If you want to succeed, you have to put in the effort. Avoid work commitments during College hours. Work by all means, but not so many hours that it takes your energy from your studies.

7.We expect you to book holidays outside term time Successful students attend well, we want you to be one of them. Holidays in term time are not authorised and will be treated as any other absence. You’ll lose any EMA, ALG or LSF payments if you are on holiday during term time.

8.We expect you to prepare properly for examinations and assessments Attend all your exams and assessments. Prepare for assessments and exams. Revise for exams, as directed by your tutors. Complete course work by set dates. Work should not interfere with your exam preparations. You are responsible for checking your exam entry and registration. Tell your tutor as soon as you know, if there is a clash of exam times.

If you fail to meet expectations, some or all of the following things might happen Meeting with tutor to discuss progress, identify problems, discuss solutions. You could be placed on a supervised timetable, with a signing in sheet and tutor comments. You may have to meet your Programme Area Manager or Head of Faculty to discuss your progress. You may be placed on a contract that says exactly what you have to do to keep your place at College. You may be issued with a formal warning that offers you a final chance to keep your place at College by meeting the expectations. If you still fail to meet our expectations, you’ll be asked to leave College.

We want you to succeed at College. We will work hard to support you and help you meet our expectations. If you ever need extra help, speak to your tutor or the Help Team in Student Services. Read more about support in the Student Handbook.
