Definition of Lung Cancer  Carcinoma of the lungs, one of the most common kinds of cancer.

History of Lung Cancer  Lung cancer was not yet existent in the early 1900s but soon after people started getting lung cancer. The amount of lung cancer is increased because of cigarette smoking. Lung cancer was not yet nonexistent in the early 1900s. In the 20th Century lung cancer increased because of cigarette smoking.

Signs/Symptoms  Coughing (most common) Shortness of breath, Fatigue and Wheezing.

Treatment  Surgery is when the doctors cut out and remove the cancer tissue  Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to shrink or kill the cancer  Radiation uses high energy to kill the cancer cells

Specific Examples  Coughing up blood, not being able to breathe well, trouble sleeping, and being tiered all the time.

When should you see a doctor?  You should see a doctor right away as soon as you have these kinds of symptoms.

Genetic,hereditary or environmental factors Five to ten percent is hereditary and it is genetic to get lung cancer.

Importance of Diet, Exercise, Medicine and Family Support  If you’re being treated for cancer, its more important then ever to get good nutrition and eat a healthy diet.  Exercise helps in a very broad way for some cancers  Family helps the person with lung cancer by giving them support and being there for them

Long Short Term Effects  If the person doesn't have health insurance and is unemployed then you qualify for charity care  If you have no money then if you own a home and have no job or insurance they will take your house first to cover the medical expenses

Wow  Lung cancer is currently responsible for 29% of cancer deaths in the United States

WOW  In 2004, 9.6 billion per year was spent on the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in the United States.
