MESOPOTAMIA 2014 RESEARCH PROJECT

WHAT IS THE MESO RESEARCH PROJECT? Starting Feb 25, all three 6th grade ancient civilizations classes will be meeting in the IMC Each student will pick a research question and gather information It is a 3-paragraph essay It is due Friday March 7

CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING RESEACH QUESTIONS Inventions What was one invention of the ancient Sumerians or Babylonians? How did it work and contribute (benefit) to their society Writing How was writing used in ancient Sumerian society and how did it benefit their society/culture? Religion/Mythology How were ancient Sumerian gods worshiped? Describe a Sumerian god and the importance this god played in Sumerian society.

Environment/Geography Why was the Fertile Crescent a beneficial place to settle? Hammurabi and his Code Describe in detail Hammurabi’s code and why it was important to ancient Mesopotamians? Architecture Choose one of the following structures and explain why it was a significant architectural achievement and its importance to Mesopotamian society. 1. Ziggurat of Ur 2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon 3. Ishtar Gate of Babylon

Art What does art teach about life in Mesopotamia? Describe one piece of art and then explain its significance to either ancient Mesopotamians and/or archaeologists Make your own research question! If there is Mesopotamian topic that you would like to research, but is not on the list you may create your own research question and get it approved by your teacher.
