French Residential Trip for the current Year 4 and 5 Mrs Britton- French subject leader Miss Wassell- Educational Visits Coordinator
Why France? What better way to inspire and motivate our children than with a trip to France? A trip based around cultural, educational and above all enjoyable excursions is the ideal opportunity to make all the “French learning” come to life.
What is OFSTED looking for? School trips can also make a major contribution to the acquisition of knowledge and development of skills. Studies of the present and past, science and arts, language and music can all be enhanced outside the classroom. Hudson, M. (2014) School Trips: Benefits far outweigh risk, The Guardian. Within successful Primary Schools, curriculums are enriched by first-hand experiences, including visits locally and further afield, contributions from adults with knowledge and skills that could enhance pupils’ learning, and an extensive range of extra-curricular activities. Ofsted (2002), ‘The curriculum in successful primary schools’ pg.553.
What does the new National Curriculum state? Language teaching at KS2 provides the foundation for further learning of languages, equipping children to study in other countries. The focus of study in modern languages will be on practical communication.
