 Before the 1970 Act, examinations were carried out in regards to the environmental issues.  These examinations showed that there were no mechanisms or regulations in place to do anything about these issues.  Time went on, and as the issues progressed to be worse and worse, the public realized the result of failure to protect the Earth.  It was then settled that some type of action needed to take place, and then form of Environmental laws started. THE START OF THE 1970 ACT

 An Environmental law is a law that was passed in the 1970’s, and is known as the National Environmental Policy Act.  Along with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Environmental Quality Improvement Act was passed as well.  Both of these laws served the purpose to protect the environment from public or private actions that could cause harm to the world around us. WHAT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW?  Photo shows Coastal Zone Pollution.

 The Environmental Law is a combination of three things:  1: The first is the statute that is passed through the Congress.  2: The list of laws and regulations created by the Environmental Protection Agency, which is in association to the particular statute that is passed through the Congress.  3: The legal translation of these regulations by the federal courts in the occasion of an environmental problem, issue, or situation. WHAT IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW, CONT.

 There is a various amount of federal environmental statues which make up the environmental law, such as:  The Pollution Prevention Act  The Clean Water Act  The Toxic Substances Control Act  The National Environmental Policy Act  The Clean Air Act  The Occupational Safety and Health Act  The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act  The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act  The Emergency Planning & Community Right-to-know Act ENVIRONMENTAL STATUES

 There are many other statues that have an association with the environmental law, however these are targeted at the reduction of harm to the environment.  The statues’ main mission is to increase public awareness of the environmental situations that go on today.  However, these laws can appear complicated for anyone who is not usually involved in the field of environmental issues.  These laws and regulations cover every environmental issue, threat, or a potential problem. THE GOAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL STATUES

 The goal of the NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) is to create policies and make estimations that are all connected to the protection of the environment.  The NEPA also measures and controls greenhouse gas which is a harm to the ozone layer.  The act is also accountable for providing notice and the means to erase danger to the environment and eco-system.  The act also establishes goals and regulations that will decrease the risk of environmental danger. NEPA

 International Organizations, Meetings, and agreements related to sustainable development are the following:  The World Conservation Union(UCN): Est. 1948, a worldwide partnership of states, government agencies, private and nonprofit organzations, from 140 countries that encourages and assists in conservation as well as equitable and sustainable use of natural resources.  UN Conference on Human Environment: Est. Stockholm, The first international meeting to consider global environment and developmental needs.  UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED or Earth Summit): Est. Rio de Janeiro, Meeting that produced Agenda 21 and the Earth Charter.  World Summit on Sustainable Development: Est. Johannesburg, Meeting to review 10 year progress of Agenda 21 and to consider several major treaties. WORLD ORGANIZATIONS

 The following Organizations, Meetings, and Agreements that are related to climate and atmosphere include:  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): Est A group of scientists from around the world who study the scientific, social, and economic aspects of human induced climate change.  Framework Convention on Climate Change: Est. Rio De Janeiro, Agreement that established international recognition of the problems of climate change, and to limit greenhouse gases.  Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer: Est. 1987:Agreement by many countries to elimate substances that damage the ozone.  Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change: Est Agreement to reduce worldwide emissions of greenhouse gases. WORLD ORGANIZATIONS CONT.

 Even though the Environmental law was formed, and the statutes were created with it, there is still room for improvement.  More complex pollutants threaten to heart the eco-system, and it is obvious that this law will have to be improved or amended in order to continue to guard the environment and to save public health. IMPROVEMENT IS STILL NEEDED
