Why major in IT? “...Total US IT employment is predicted to double in this decade. Similarly, the security of computer networks will continue to increase in importance as more business is conducted over the Internet.” -- U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2006).

Why IT at National College? As a Microsoft IT Academy, we can provide you with state-of-the-art courseware, training and a comprehensive curriculum. The Microsoft IT Academy program has proven success in career advancement for students and in contributing to the employment and productivity of the community workforce. As a member of MSDN Academic Alliance, we can provide you with the latest development tools, operating systems, server software, documentation and technical references. This includes licenses to provide no-cost software to our students taking courses leading to the CNT, ISE or BIT degrees. As a Pearson Virtual University (VUE) testing center, we strongly encourage our students to combine competency-based industry certifications with our curriculum, to provide the highest competitive advantage in today’s job market –a degree and professional certification.

Computer Network Technician 1-year program (Diploma Program). 48 credit hours: 24 hours of IT concentration, 24 hours of general education. The CNT program is designed to deliver maximum value for a one-year educational commitment. Students learn the basics of troubleshooting hardware, software and network components. Students also gain practice in user support skills and documentation. Students are supported and encouraged to earn industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+ and MCP. 1

Information Systems Engineering 2-year program (Associate of Science degree); 96 credit hours (56 core, 16 career support, 24 general education) Adding to the foundation technical skills acquired in the first year, the ISE Associate degree adds coursework and laboratory practice in the design and maintenance of a mission-critical business network infrastructure. Learn about security design and implementation, messaging systems and more! Students are supported and encouraged to gain invaluable practical experience earning college credit as an extern working with one of our area business partners. 2

Bachelor of Information Technology Today’s companies want technical specialists who are articulate, friendly, professional and have some common sense in addition to their technical skills. They have to be able to write manuals and plans, train non-technical employees to be more productive, and assist managers in making decisions involving technology. In 180 credit hours of instruction, the BIT degree delivers a well-rounded technical education that prepares students to design and administer a business computer network with minimal security risks and a maximum return on the business investment. It also provides a solid foundation in communication, problem-solving, and workplace professionalism plus specific classes on how to support and educate users to achieve optimal productivity from the computer technology at their disposal. Learn computer programming, database administration, e-commerce web site design and more! 3

I transferred to National College of Business and Technology from Virginia Tech in September of 2003 and I’m enrolled in National’s Information Systems Engineering Program—a two-year program in which students learn how to plan, implement, maintain, secure, and support operating systems and networked environments. At National you find a smaller class environment; and you are not just a number—your teachers know who you are, really care about you, and make sure that you understand the material covered. These factors have helped me to reach my academic goals. If you are interested in reaching your educational and career goals, I really recommend that you take a serious look at National.
