ASSOCIATE TRAINERS COURSE Dr Leena Deol & Dr Richard Musson

Running of the course  To be held at the Le Strange Hotel: Hunstanton  On Saturdays in 11Jan/ 1Feb/8 March  Cost £100/day/delegate.  3 day course.

Aims and objectives  Course to facilitate the development of Associate Trainers, who can feel confident in training Foundation year 2 doctors and GP Trainees.  Skills taught:  -Identification of the trainee learning needs  -Looking at ways of fulfilling those needs  -Learning how to do assessments effectively e.g., CBD’s/COTS/Mini CEX

Pre course survey  Thoughts from the attendees:  Ideas around education.  Concerns about becoming educators.  Expectations from becoming educators.  Reflection on :good educational experience/poor educational experience.  What do you hope to achieve by the end of the course.

Day1:am  10am start  10am Introduction  Paired group exercise  Sharing thoughts  till Tea break  How do we identify learning needs  Feedback  Presentation  till 1pm Lunch

Day1 :pm  Group activity on addressing learning needs.  1.00pm-1.10 Role play  : Giving effective feedback  : Receiving feedback  pm: Reflecting on feedback  2pm-2.30pm : Tea break  pm Making a change based on feedback.  3pm-3.30pm Review of the day and homework for the next day:

Day2 am  10am start   Introduction for the day: How to deliver teaching  Group activity:  Tea Break  Tutorials  : Discuss learning points from this  pm Lunch

Day2 pm  1.00pm-1.20pm Introduction to Calgary Cambridge guide  Watch a video  pm Group discussion  pm Role play  Tea break for (30 mins)  Feedback  Review of the day: Homework activity

Day3 am  Introduction of the day: Assessments  Presentation on e- portfolio  Group work  TeaBreak  Group work

Day 3 pm  1.00pm-1.30pm F2 checklist:  Group work: Barriers to assessment and how to over come them.  Group feedback on the discussion  Tea break  Feedback  Round up

End of course  Give out feedback forms to be completed before a CPD certificate to be given for 5 hrs of CPD per day
