Three Branches of Government *Executive Branch*

YOUR Branch GOES HERE Who is in your branch of government Headed by the president. The vice president is next in command The cabinet- is made up of the heads of the fifteen major departments of the government

EXECUTIVE BRANCH What does your branch do? The president carries out federal laws and recommends new ones He directs national defense and foreign policy He performs ceremonial duties Powers include directing government, commanding the Armed Forces, dealing with international powers, acting as chief law enforcement officer, and vetoing laws.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH How does your branch interact with the other branches ? In order for the Legislative Branch to pass a bill into law, the President (Executive Branch) must sign it. The President can check the Legislative Branch by vetoing it: not signing a bill into law. The President nominates candidates for Supreme Court Justices (Judicial Branch). In doing this, he checks the Judicial Branch by nominating candidates that would balance the power in the Supreme Court (or tip it into his favor).

YOUR Branch GOES HERE What does your branch do to help a bill become a law? While it is the legislative branch that passes bills, the president must sign them into effect. And though not in the Constitution, every president since Washington has made "executive orders", which are basically just laws passed by the president which bypass congress. Executing, or implementing laws, is the main job of the executive branch.
