Green in Sint-Agatha-Berchem

The little gardens

The allotment There are many people who have an allotment where they cultivate plants. They plant fruits and vegetables. They rent this little garden because they don’t have a garden at home, because they live in a apartment.

Kattenbroeck

Kattebroeck In Kattebroeck there is a lot of green. People go there to relax and walk and enjoy the neighborhood.

Villo

● Public transport In Sint-Agatha-Berchem there is not a lot of public transport, there’s no metro, only a few buses and trams. But they have villo, you can rent a bike.

Wilderenbos

Wilderenbos contains the most green of all. You wouldn’t find any public transport or cars. We asked a few questions to people. For example what they want to change. They say they want more green. But they also say there is more green in Sint-Agatha-Berchem then in other parts of Brussels.

The European Parliament ● We have visited the parliament and talked about the environment of Belgium.

● Workshop Geomobiel ● We have made a map of the vegetation in Brussels. We thought before the workshop there was only 25% green in Brussels.

● Analysis ● The green zones in Brussel are in the outskirts. ● The rich people live in the outskirts, they can buy the houses with a high price. ● The population is high in the centre of the city because the house a cheaper.

Average annual income

● Population

● Vegetation

● Personal experiences ● There is more green in Brussels than we thought.

Some solutions ● The city can give subventions for solar panels and for green roofs. ● We can put packing deposit money on the plastic bottles, like this less people will throw them on the street. ● The city can oblige the people who buy a new house to plant some trees in the garden.
