Welcome to Open House! 2 nd Grade

Essential Agreements for Meridian  Uniform Policy: When in doubt ask!  Awesome job on the clothing!  Some things we have notice include: Colorful Shoes, Hair Accessories, Colorful Socks  Dismissal Safety:  Cell phones  Transportation Changes (Same Day)  Birthdays  No Food Please!  Can give invitations out if you have one for ALL of the class  Or all boys or all girls in the class  Closed Campus  However, we will be setting up beginning of the year conferences to meet with you about your child’s academic and social growth!

A day in the life… of a Second Grader  PRIDE TIME!  Greeting  Sharing (oral sharing, please do not bring items to school unless it is related to our planner)  Team Builder (Tuesday) / Wonder Wednesday  Morning Message- A daily message that relates to our unit of study.

Literacy Connections  Reading and Writing connection to our planner using The Daily 5 Structure  *Read to self (RTS)  *Work on writing (WOW)  Listen to reading  Read to someone * Students will practice RTS and WOW everyday! Teachers will pull flexible grouping for differentiated instruction! Don’t forget to bring me to school in a plastic bag with your name on it!

Words their Way!  Spelling program based on your child’s needs!  Pull out WTW notebook!  The students interact with a variety of word parts, patterns, and sorts. Library Day: Tuesday! If you are interested in helping in the Library please see the sign up sheet!

Recess Please put your child’s name on everything!

Unit of Study  Please read the IB Planner Letters! These are great communication tools for you and your child.  Choose a learner profile that describes your child... Write a quick note to your child on the notecard explaining your choice and pin it to the paper plate at the end of the session.

Reflection Journal and Daily Folder Your child will have a daily communication folder in their backpack everyday. The student will color half the square (Green, Yellow, or Red). The other half of the square is for you to initial that you have seen the folder.
