INDIANA CITIZENS’ ALLIANCE FOR TRANSIT The Indiana Citizens’ Alliance for Transit (ICAT) educates on the benefits of transit and advocates for the immediate development and ongoing support of comprehensive transit options in communities across Indiana

TRANSIT IS VITAL TO OUR FUTURE Opportunity through economic development, job creation, and spurred growth Choice in transportation mode - an affordable, convenient and safe option Access to be independent and self-sufficient Freedom and Mobility for community members

Widening roads to reduce congestion is like loosening your belt to lose weight

GUIDING PRINCIPLES Transit options include any form of motorized transportation, other than single-occupancy vehicles, that are available to the public and capable of transporting riders en masse. We advocate through consensus-building, research and public education, as well as grassroots and legislative advocacy. We represent all Hoosiers!

REDUCED DEPENDENCY ON AUTOMOBILES

TRANSIT IS A WISE INVESTMENT Transit: Creates jobs Connects employees to employers Enhances economic development Reduces household transportation costs Attracts companies looking to expand or locate here

TRANSIT OFFERS VAST BENEFITS Whether you’re interested in “going green” or “making green,” there are countless reasons to get involved in ICAT’s work and to support transit in Indiana. Reduced congestion Cleaner air Improved safety and public health Independence and mobility

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND HEALTH Studies show that transit riders walk more per day than car commuters. Traffic injury & fatality rates decline as transit ridership increases. Reduced car trips improve air quality: transit produces lower emissions per passenger mile. Transit takes people to medical care and services, as well as to the places they need to go to stay healthy.

OUR ADVOCACY MESSAGE 1.We need more transit 2.We need more funding for transit 3.We need local funding options for transit
