The Placement 6 weeks (9th Jan - 17th Feb 2006) Practical experience Report to Management Distinct from Mentoring Scheme

The Placement Office Kay ThomsonErica Cargill (Placement Manager) (Placement Manager) Tel: Our Office: 4th Floor, Garthdee Phase II Visiting us : Surgery Hour noon – 1.00pm daily

What we do for you.... Generate placement opportunities Provide advice and assistance to students in securing a placement Liaise with companies to handle the interview process and appointment of students WE DON’T: Guarantee you a placement

Your CV No more than two pages Sell yourself, but don’t go over the top - never lie Include all work experience - emphasise skills rather than duties Make it up-to-date Be creative - layout can make all the difference Write about hobbies, interests, people and community involvement Evidence of leadership potential should be hi-lighted - e.g. office bearing, sports team captain, work supervisor, prefect etc Proof read, proof read, proof read!

The Placement Process Positions will be advertised on the website throughout first semester - (follow the links for Job Marketspace) Students should write a letter of application, attach it to their CV and submit this to the Placement Office by the closing date for forwarding to the Company. Interviews will usually be arranged through the Placement Office (check your daily)

Own Approaches Think about any personal contacts you might have Ask parents/friends Keep us informed DO NOT: Apply directly to the company for any vacancy advertised on the web site unless the advert clearly states to do so.

Your Responsibilities To complete your CV To apply for positions To keep us up to date with your progress. GOOD LUCK!
