Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 3 Eddicam Objectives of the meeting –Organization of the EddiCam Working Group –Planning of activities –Identification of tasks and assignment of responsibilities

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 4 Eddicam Status of Eddington Project –LoI’s and Working groups –Eddington Science Team meeting conclusions –Industrial studies –Overall Definition Phase planning

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 5 Eddicam Eddington Science Team August meeting conclusions –EST to coordinate the activities of the different WGs. –Main and most urgent task: to update scientific requirements of the mission  combined effort to analyze the need of colour discrimination. –EST will be responsible for system trade-offs decided during this phase.

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 6 Eddicam Eddington Scientific Requirements Update –Baseline contained in EDD/IN/210/SPE/01 draft A (Feb. 2001) –Inputs for update required as soon as possible, starting with primary mission inputs: main objectives of the mission and corresponding scientific justification

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 7 Eddicam Status od EddiCam design –Presentation by T. Muñoz

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 8 Eddicam “Hot” engineering open questions –Color information Which color information? For both PF and AS ? –Switchable frame transfer operation –Mechanisms –Straylight –Thermal control –CCD control and readout –Low noise power supply –DPU capabilities –......

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 9 Eddicam Working Group organization –Scientific Team: At least one member from each participating institute For the Definition Phase, as many members as desired. Number of Co-Is should be revised for Phase C/D, after official AO Main task: direct scientific advice on the design and trade- off processes taking place during the Definition Phase  scientific requirements, acceptable descopings... Endorsed by the EST

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 10 Eddicam Working Group organization –Technical Team: Engineers from the technical participating institutes 1-2 engineers per institute to become single point of contact, as local project managers or system engineers Coordinated by EddiCam Project Manager at INTA

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 11 Eddicam Working Group organization –Interaction with other WGs and ESA EddiCam WG interfaces directly with the activities of the other WGs at Eddington Science Team level, coordinated by the Project Scientist -Fabio Favata- through the corresponding Lead Scientists. A more direct interaction is guaranteed by the overlap in the different WGs: EddiCam WG members also participate to the 3 other WG activities. EWG interfaces with the ESA Technical Office, coordinated by the Study Manager -Anders Karlsson- through the EddiCam Project Manager and/or Lead Scientist.

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 12 Eddicam Working Group organization –Interaction with industrial studies EddiCam Lead Scientist and Project Manager will take place by default in the meetings and discussions taking place during the industrial studies. Other engineers from the EWG will be requested to participate when convenient. EWG + EST will agree the required trade-offs being decided during the insdustrial studies. Telescope study kick-off planned for early November. EWG opinion with respect to various options will be gathered by in the meantime.

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 13 Eddicam Working Group organization –Planning INTA to distribute as soon as available: + Draft index of EddiCam System Specification  + Draft A EddiCam Scientific Requirements  + Public technical info from the telescope study proposal Comments and suggestion provided back by EWG. 1 meeting of complete technical team every 3-4 months, or when required. Next meeting planned for end of January Scientific team will be also invited to participate. Splinter sessions to address specific questions. Bilateral meetings between INTA Project Office and local project managers/system engineers when required.

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 14 Eddicam Working Group organization –Planning Optical concept frozen at the end of 2001 Preliminar optical design available in early 2002 Detailed optomechanical design available at the end of 2002 CCD chips properties decided in Spring (if possible, before CCD study starts).  Before the Summer, all inputs (scientific and technical) should be available).  EddiCam detailed design will only start after Summer 2002.

Vienna, Sept. 17th 2001EddiCam kick-off meeting J.Miguel Mas-Hesse 15 Eddicam Working Group organization –Documentation Web server available at LAEFF-INTA containing all documents of interest. Presently public, restricted access in the future. INTA will distribute configuration requirements to homogenize documents and drawings.
