Physical Fitness

Physical fitness = general state of good health as a result of exercise and nutrition Ability to perform in sports or physical activities What is fitness?

Why is it important? Weight control Disease prevention (Diabetes) Overall heart health Mental well-being (mood) Promotes better sleep Appearance Increases overall energy Self-esteem Stress relief FUN!!

Examples of exercise Cardio: good for the heart – Running, walking, hiking, dancing, climbing stairs, jumping, soccer, tennis, basketball Isolation: good for building muscle – Wall sits, planks, sit-ups, push-ups, squats Recovery: good for endurance – Stretching, breathing

Statistics Obesity is highest amongst year olds Obesity is highest among Hispanics and African Americans Obesity is the #2 cause of preventable death in the U.S. (victoryforyouth.org) Approximately 17% (12.7 million children between the ages of years old) are obese (cdc.org statistics) Together, we can change these statistics!!
