Different Types of Communication

Interpersonal Communication Communication within oneself

Interpersonal Communication Communication between people When it involves only two people it is called dyadic communication Interpersonal communication is interactive

Small Group Communication Three or more people gather in a context where every person can participate actively with others. It is interactive Coalitions can be formed Small groups can be more creative

Public Communication A large group setting The group is too large for every one to be able to participate Little opportunity for 2 way conversation

Mass Communication When a message is constructed and transmitted so many people, in different places and at different times, can receive the same message. Feedback is difficult, often delayed. Interaction is limited.
