How to Make an ILLiad Request Here are step-by-step instructions on how to request material from Interlibrary Loan

There are two types of requests you make. You either request a book, or you request an article. This tutorial shows you how to do both. Click here to skip to book requests.Click here to skip to article requestsClick here to skip to article requests. [HYPERLINK BEFORE PUBLISHING]

Book Request You will need to log into ILLiad in order to make a request. If you do not have an ILLiad account, please sign-up for one for free at the Interlibrary Loan home page, and refer to the ILLiad tutorial.

Before you submit a request, you should make sure it is not already available at NMT Skeen Library. ILL will not make requests for material we already own. To do this, go to the library’s homepage and click “LIBROS (Online Catalog)”.

Search by title, author, subject, etc. Enter what you want to search. Choose which library you want to search. Always check to see if NMT owns the book. If not, you may make a request through ILL. Click here to submit your search.

If you receive this message, the material is eligible to be requested through Interlibrary Loans. If your search results bring you to a record such as this one, the library owns this material, and it may not be requested through ILL. Instead, you will have to check it out from the NMT library.

We did a title search for The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. LIBROS responded with “No matches found” below. This means NMT Skeen Library does not own the book, and it is eligible to be requested through ILL. Login to ILLiad to begin your request.

Step 1 This is the menu bar where you start a request. Click on the type of material you wish to request. This is where you can see the status of your requests and collect articles. This where you can edit your personal information.

Click “Book” to request a book. When you make a request, you either request a book or an article. Here we show you how to request a book.

ILLiad will ask you to describe the item. Here is an example: 1)Enter the author’s or editor’s name. If there is more than one author, separate names by a comma. 2)Enter the full title of the book. 3)Enter all the publication information you can. The more information you provide ILL about your request, the faster the service will be. This information can be found at WorldCat.org or amazon.com. 4)Indicate which edition you want, otherwise you may receive an outdated copy. 5)ISBN can also be found at WorldCat.org or amazon.com. Providing the ISBN will make service faster

6) If you wish to include a call number: - Go to the LIBROS website - Enter the title of the book you wish to request - From the drop down menu labeled “New Mexico Tech”, choose “Entire LIBROS Consortium”. - Click “Search”. - Enter the number under “CALL NO.” 7) OCLC numbers can be very handy in finding difficult material. To find the OCLC number: - Go to Worldcat.org - Enter the title of the book you wish to request - Click “OCLC FirstSearch” - At the bottom of the record you will find the OCLC number under “Accession Number: OCLC” 6 7 This information is unimportant, but useful. Call numbers vary from library to library, so you do not need to include it. OCLC numbers are helpful if the material you request is rare or old.

) Sometimes material is available in more than one language. If you only want English copies, select “No” from the drop down menu, otherwise you may receive a copy in a different language. If you also speak Russian, and would accept a copy in Russian, select “Yes” and indicate the languages you read in the “Notes” section in number 7. If you do not indicate specific languages you may receive material in any language. 9) If you would like a specific edition, select “No” for this field and indicate which edition you will accept. If the edition does not matter, select “Yes”. 10) Here you may indicate any other information that you feel will be useful to ILL for locating the material you want. For instance, you may explain here which languages and editions you will accept. Filling out the information below is not required, but it is very helpful in providing you with the best service.

These last fields are for surveying purposes. You may leave them blank or fill them out as you wish. When the required fields of the request form are completed, you may click the “Submit Request” button at the bottom of the screen. Click here to submit request.

Now your request has been submitted. It will appear in your profile like this: This is the Transaction Number. This is your request’s ID number. This is the type of request. This is the title of your request. You may notice changes in this field if you filled out your request form in error. This the author of your request. This is the request status. This updates as the request goes through to completion. You will be notified via when it arrives at NMT Skeen Library.

Article Request You will need to log into ILLiad in order to make a request. If you do not have an ILLiad account, please sign-up for one for free at the Interlibrary Loan home page, and refer to the ILLiad tutorial.

Before you request an article, you must know its citation information. The best way to do this is to use the Research Databases or Discovery located in the library’s homepage at If you are unfamiliar with how to use the databases, please refer to the Database tutorial.

Take note of the source information. You will have to enter the Journal title, volume, issue, year, and page range when you fill out your request form.

Now that you can find your citation information, you are ready to request an article from Interlibrary Loans. Login to your ILLiad account to begin. Click “Photocopy” to begin your article request

ILLiad will ask you to describe the article you wish to request. The following is an example of how to fill out the form )Enter the journal or publication title in which your article has been published. 2)If the journals occur as a set of volumes, indicate the volume number. 3)Indicate the issue. This can be a number, a month, or even a week. 4)Indicate the month, such as the March 1996 issue of Wired. 5)Enter the year of publication. 6)Enter the page range of the article. This is how libraries find the articles you request. 7)You may enter an ISBN number for faster service. You can find this at Worldcat.org or amazon.com.

Articles or journals typically do not have call numbers. Leave this blank. OCLC numbers are not required, but can be very handy in finding rare or foreign material. To find the OCLC number: - Go to Worldcat.org - Enter the title of the book you wish to request - Click “OCLC FirstSearch” - At the bottom of the record you will find the OCLC number under “Accession Number: OCLC”

) Enter the author/s of the article. If there are multiple authors, you may enter the first authors name, or enter all of their names separated by commas. 9) Enter the full article title. 10) Enter the date in which it is too late for you to accept the article. It will default at one year from the date at which you submit the request. 11) If you speak another language other than English, and will accept an article in that language, select “Yes”. You must indicate which language in the “Notes” field just below. If you only speak English, select “No”. 12) Here you may add any information you think is helpful, or which languages you will accept, etc.

This information is optional, but can also be helpful if you are requesting old, or rare material. Providing this information allows ILL to backtrack through citations to research and find your material. Click here to Submit your request.

When the request has been submitted, ILLiad will display it on your profile. This is the article’s transaction number. It is the ILL identification number. This is the request type. This is the journal and article title. These may change if you have filled out the request form in error. This is the status of your request. ILL will deliver your articles to you via .
