Theravada ("The School of the Elders“) is based on reason and thought, not blind faith and Mahayana ("The Great Vehicle") follows the teachings of Dharma. The four noble truths of Buddhism are: There is suffering. There is cause for suffering. There is cessation of suffering. There is path leading to the cessation of suffering.
