Pickle Power Production by Mrs. Luevand The Pickle Light Pickle Power Production by Mrs. Luevand

Materials Safety attire: gloves, goggles, apron. Iron Ring stand Large Dill Pickle with pickle juice Extension cord with the female end cut off and converted into a 10 cm two prong wire stripped and separated 2 long nails - if needed

Pickle Theory What happens to atoms when stimulated by heat or an electricity? What type of energy transfer occurs by excited electrons?

La Experiment Put on safety attire. Place one end of the split wire into each end of the pickle. Attach the nail to the wire if necessary. Plug cord into the socket. Pickle will light up.

Let’s Shed some light… Question: The pickle emits yellow light when electrocuted, what element emits yellow light? Question: Why does the yellow light occur on one half of the pickle?

Luminary findings Question: Although the pickle is cooked, is matter conserved? Explain. Do you believe energy transfers form? How does this transition happen?

References Kosher dill pickles have the highest salt content according to Digital Computers (1989). The pickle light resembles Na atom (JOCE, 1993). Gilbert, George.Tested Demonstrations, Volume 70, Number 3, 250-251
